Miss Lenora Detering of Houston opened Miracle Farm in 1982 as a private, Christian residential child-care facility that provided basic care for boys and girls. Miss Detering had a God-given vision for helping children in a serene, country setting and believed that the rolling hillsides near Brenham provided the perfect spot. Not long after her death in the late 1980s, Texas Baptist Children’s Home & Family Services (forerunner of Children At Heart Ministries) in Round Rock acquired the property for the purpose of offering a boys’ ranch program.
In 1989, Miracle Farm began its current mission as a nonprofit, residential program dedicated to helping at-risk teenage boys and their families to experience new direction and restoration. Today, Miracle Farm is independently incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency and remains part of the Children At Heart family of ministries.
